Wordly Wise

In the hustle and bustle of the day
Surrounded by folks and friends
I feel lost, lonely and astray

Drifting off or awaking,
in dreams and reality
My heart’s always aching
and my soul’s always praying
for you…

Suppressing my urges
to talk to you
curbing my craving
to hear you
ignoring my thirst
to meet you
restraining my longing
to be with you
stifling my desire
to touch you
I feel fervent and helpless,
desperate and hopeless
For I expect and demand,
hope and anticipate

Then all of a sudden I seek nothing
Bereft of hopes, wishes or desires
Left with only a soul that aspires
…for your happiness

Then I experience a holy calm
Peace descends on me
like a soft, soothing balm
and a knowing arises
…that we’re never apart
because you live
forever in my heart

Drifting like an aimless cloud,
resembling a soft ball of cotton
in the clear, blue sky
Moving
in no specific direction
I feel peaceful

Floating like an unmanned raft
concurring with the currents
of an endless, wild sea
Thinking
no specific thoughts
I feel joyful

Hopping like a beautiful butterfly
from flower to flower
in the garden of love
Smiling
with no specific reason
I feel cheerful

Walking like a goalless vagabond
who has nothing to achieve
in this lovely, long life,
Living
with no specific purpose
I feel blissful

As I wander alone in life
Wanting to be needed,
needing to be loved
Willing to belong,
longing to be wanted
I see the yawning black sky,
and its never-ending vastness
Mirroring my heart’s emptiness,
concealing its beat’s fastness,
but revealing my soul’s freeness

The universe seems so pointless
Millions of stars shining
for billions of years together,
making a pretty sight
for us to adore at night
But is that their purpose?
To simply adorn the sky
The yawning, black sky
The endless, vast sky
Is it so pointless?
If yes, I wonder why?
Just as I wonder
about the pointlessness
of my life… and cry
